A Guide to the Birds of Mexico and Northern Central America
by Steve N. G. Howell
This is currently the best field guide for birding in the Yucatan. It is
a bit heavy to carry in the field. One trick used by many birders is to take it apart and reconstruct it as two books - text and illustrations. This makes the illustrations part much more portable and easy to carry in the field. A copy place like Kinko's can do it for you.

Birds of Mexico and Central America
(Princeton Illustrated Checklists) (Paperback)
by Ber van Perlo
It's compact size, location of text and illustrations next to each other and inclusion of North American migrants are big advantages. It does have some shortcomings in quality of illustrations and the fact that the maps are in the back.
